Hi all,
I have a doubt regarding Compact Flash Card on Palm OS. Say i am
interested in developping a Compact Flash card (wireless card) for
Palm OS.

I have registered myself for the Pluggedin Program as well as for the
Palm OS Developper Program. In the pluggedin website i see some sdk
and tools for developping SDIO cards but not for Compact Flash cards.

1)What are the steps i need to take ?

2)How do i write my application and Driver for my Compact Flash Card
for Palm OS.

3)Should i have to develop an individual driver for palm device (ie
one driver for sony devices, one for handspring devices....etc) or is
it possible to write a single driver for the CF card, which can be
used for any device running palm OS ?

4)How do i start ?

5)Do you get evaluation bords for developping drivers for Palm OS ?
something in the market you guys can suggest which i can buy ?

6)Does palm give ddk and sdk for developing drivers and application
for Compact Flash for Palm OS devices ?

thanks and regards

Hello Ben Combee,
Thanks for the reply. I have a question.
How is the Handera Guys able to develop a driver for a compact flash
card ?
check this link. http://www.handera.com/Services/PalmOS.aspx

They have developed a driver for a similar compact flash card. So this
means that it is possible to write a driver for our card too...But i
guess i am missing some info on how to go about doing this.

Is there some extra lincense that we need to apply from palm to get
information to write driver for compact flash.

Ok we also have a 32bit Intel Xscale PXA255 from HyBus with a compact
flash slot on it. Can we get Rom images from Plam or build Rom images
for this board and write a driver for our compact flash card ?

Thanks and regards

The only Palm OS devices that are on the market right now that support
Compact Flash are the Sony NX73V, NX80V, and NZ90. Those devices only
support Sony's own wireless card and CF memory cards. You can check
Sony's developer site at http://www.cliedeveloper.com/top.html, but I
don't think they provide any support for interfacing through CF.

The PluggedIn program is only for developers of software and peripherals
for devices made by Palm Solutions Group. Palm SG doesn't make any
devices with a CF slot.

Hello Ben Combee,
Thanks again.
Seems like we need to buy the code from palm. :-( no choice.

I understand that we need to talk to them regarding this. Just want
to collect some info before giving it a try.

Do you have a rough idea how much it might cost ? and assume that we
are ready to buy the code, what exactly would they provide us ?
becuase we must be able to write a driver for our card, which can run
on ANY palm powered pda. Other wise it would be of not much use.

It should not be like we buy code from them and they give use code to
modify the code at the user level.

We must be able to recompile the ROM image, i guess we codwarrior will
do that for us...? right ? Load it to some board where we can test our
driver.

Thanks for your replies.

HandEra was a Palm OS licensee. They paid a lot of money to get access
to the Palm OS source code, and they developed two of their own devicesm
each with CF slots.

It sounds like you need to contact PalmSource and become an OS licensee.
